Mohegan Sun Racing Leaves Iowa With Disappointing 18th Place Finish

Waterford, Conn. (May 25, 2010): Matt Kobyluck had hoped to celebrate his son's birthday in victory lane when the series headed to Iowa Speedway for an East/West K&N Pro Series challenge. Instead, the team struggled from the moment they unloaded the No. 40 Mohegan Sun Racing Chevrolet. They changed everything they could think of before the green flag dropped, but a tight condition derailed their day to an 18th place finish.

"We went a lap down right at the beginning of the race," said Kobyluck. "And we spent the rest of the day trying to make up for that."

It was at lap 23 of the 201-lap race that Kobyluck came down pit road for adjustments on the Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet. It was a plan put into action after Kobyluck qualified 31st and before the green flag ever dropped.

"The car was so tight that we decided we would come in and try and make it better. We started so far in the back anyway. We figured we'd go a lap down, but we were confident that we would get it back," said Kobyluck.

The team did get their lap back, but not as early as they expected to.

"We should have gotten the beneficiary about 50 laps previous to where we did, but NASCAR gave it to a car about nine positions behind us. That is what hurt us," Kobyluck said. "We just ran out of laps trying to get back up. Realistically, we had about a tenth place car."

The finish dropped the 2008 championship team to tenth in the points, but Kobyluck and his crew are hopeful to turn things around at Martinsville Speedway on June 6.

"Everyone worked extremely hard this weekend," said Kobyluck about his crew. "They changed shocks, control arms - everything they could think of to make this car better. They never gave up: not before the race, not during the race, and they certainly haven't after the race. We're going to Martinsville determined to turn this around."
